MAGAGANDANG ALA-ALA
TOKYO MIDTOWN KOINOBORI
Tokyo Midtown hosts an outdoor exhibition called the “OPEN THE PARK”. The event is held in Tokyo Midtown Garden where many artists from all around the world are invited to participate in their annual Koinobori carp-shaped windsocks traditionally flown in Japan to “wish for the healthy growth of children”.
Design Concept
“Magagandang Ala-Ala” means Beautiful Memories, the design focuses on two regions within the Island of Luzon in the Philippines; the Cordillera Region and Metro Manila Capital Region. The design shows the urban life in Metro Manila (warm tones) and the agriculture life in Banaue (cold tones). I had the opportunity to experience both the historical and cultural aspects while studyingabroad in the Philippines. I was inspired by 'Parol', it is an ornamental, star-shaped Christmas lantern from the Philippines. The patterns are based on both regions.
